A practical child care packing checklist

Separate daily items from classroom supplies and make it easier to notice what needs replacing.

A well-packed child care bag does not need to be complicated. The most useful list is the one that matches your child’s age, the center’s requirements, and the things that actually travel home each day.

Start with your center’s current instructions. This guide helps you organize those instructions; it does not replace them. Children’s Corner families can find center materials in parent resources and everyday answers in the FAQ.

Divide the list into three parts

Make one section for items that stay at the center, one for items that travel each day, and one for things staff will ask you to replenish. This is easier to follow than a single long list that mixes a spare outfit with tomorrow’s lunch.

Ask how the classroom stores belongings and how families learn when supplies are low. Confirm what needs a name label and where it should go. Labeling helps staff distinguish similar items and makes it easier for belongings to find their way home.

Avoid sending valuables or favorite items until you have checked the center’s rules. What works at home may not be suitable for a shared classroom.

Keep spare clothing ready for use

Children’s Corner asks families to provide at least two labeled changes of clothing, along with appropriate outdoor clothing. Check the current size and season rather than assuming a bag packed months ago still works.

Think through a complete change, including the items your child normally wears. Ask where used clothing will be placed and how replacements should be sent back. If you receive a change of clothes at pickup, put replacing it on the next morning’s list before it becomes easy to forget.

Match feeding supplies to your child’s program

For infants at Children’s Corner Auburn and Leicester, families provide milk or formula and labeled bottles. Confirm the center’s preparation, storage, and handoff requirements directly with staff. Do not use a general online checklist to make decisions about quantities, feeding instructions, or individual needs.

For toddlers and preschoolers, ask what lunch and drink items are expected and how they should be labeled. Children’s Corner’s published guidance says breakfast and morning and afternoon snacks are provided, while families bring lunch unless the center communicates a different arrangement. Peanuts and seafood are not permitted. Review all current allergy and food rules with your center rather than treating this short summary as the complete policy.

Check care and rest supplies

Diapers, wipes, and toileting supplies may need to be replenished as your child uses them. Ask the classroom which items to bring and how much it can store.

For rest time, send only what staff request and permit for your child’s age group. Discuss individual care items, medication, or special instructions through the center’s required process. Putting an item in a bag is not a substitute for the necessary conversation or documentation.

Make the daily reset easy

At pickup or after you get home, check for items that need washing, replacing, or returning. A short reset might include emptying the lunch container, checking spare clothes, and reading any supply reminder from the classroom.

Keep tomorrow’s list somewhere convenient for every adult who helps with drop-off. Update it when your child changes classrooms, sizes, or routines. The goal is a dependable system, not a perfectly styled bag.

Before a first day, ask the team to review your list. If you are preparing an infant’s start, our first-day guide covers the conversations and setup that go beyond packing.
